Sentimental?
Yes. Simple? Not always. We are talking about setting up a intimate private
wedding ceremony, lakeside house, garden, country cottage or your very own
backyard.

That
idea came when we visit Le Bui Villa, a completely word of mouth homestay in the
outskirt of HoiAn Old Town. Many artists, thinkers, dreamers choose Le Bui Villa
as their getaway for years until its gentleman owner decided to open his doors
for travelers as well. At the moment we saw it, we all knew the styled
shoot is gonna be here. Le Bui villa is a living history museum, a personal
collection, an exhibition of art pieces made with a lot of passion. Each room
was uniquely designed with different bed sheets, paintings on the wall or even
the bathroom tiles. The garden is whimsically manicured, small little statuette
are hidden near bushes with flowers and leaves that
drapes, shades, hides and flatters. Even a small fountain is buried in the
greenery so you always hear the softness of a babbling brook. So if you are
after intimate DIY ceremony among our nearest and dearest, this checklist
below is about being prepared for what it takes to throw a wedding in your very
own backyard. Or any backyard.

I'm not
sure if this is running knot, but what you want to do: measure the length of the
curtain, get a ribbon which is double in length, fold it in half and put the
loop on top of the string before sliding two ends through it. Don't tie it, you
will not like it when you have to remove. |
Don't
mistake cozy for overcrowded.

Our woo-hoo
photo corner |
Have a realistic
floor plan: Where gonna do What. Basically you will need space for the ceremony,
photo corner, gather up and reception (and dance floor if you are a dancer) If
you plan to use a combination of indoor and outdoor space, know that if the
weather takes a turn for the worst, everyone will need to fit indoors. Therefor
you know how many people you should invite. For example, we have a
spacious open living room which can fit 30 people. We plan to clear off the
furniture and keep it as our reception spot. So 30 is our guests
amount.
You Can't
Do It All Yourself
There were four
of us in a team and it took 3,5 hours to tend the garden, decorate and transform
the space into other uses. But it already took us half a day to brainstorm,
examine the property and get all the stuffs together. Your loved ones would love
to give a helping hand but in fact everyone is busy getting ready for the big
moment. So hiring a wedding team to help you cover all the basics: setting up,
cooking, serving, parking cars, and cleaning up is absolutely good
idea.

Everyone
has their plates.
Your must-have items are tables, chairs, dinnerware,
napkins, table linens, place settings, barware, portable bathrooms, and a tent.
In case you don't have enough chairs for everyone to sit down for the ceremony
or you need more room for the dance floor, remove most of the chairs after the
meal, keeping just enough around so half the party can sit during the
festivities.
You Can Save on
Decorations
What makes your
place unique -- an elegant dining room, a massive oak tree in your backyard, a
gorgeous lawn, or a spectacular view? Play up that feature to create a homey
feel. We collect antiques, vases and decorations around the house to add to the
trend of making it look like you've emptied Grandma's china cabinet of all its
unique and beautiful pieces. Use different centerpieces and mix-and-match vases.
Bring in fresh, home-grown-type flowers or play with outdoor lighting
possibilities. Garden lamps, paper lanterns, and tiny white lantern strung on
branches will create a stunning atmosphere.
Enhance the
guests' experience
Always plan for
the worst by making sure guests will be covered in the event of a unwanted
downpour or stifling heat. Provide plenty of shaded areas, cool drinks, and even
hand fans available. If it's a warm day, extra electric fans and portable air
conditioners can be brought in, on chilly night, propane heaters to warm up the
place.
